My leather journey began out of necessity in 1993 while working as an engineer for the US Navy. I spent $300 on a starter kit from Tandy Leather and still have most of the items from that kit. I was lucky to be able to walk into a Tandy store. I made a kidney belt for motorcycle riding and other motorcycle related items including a “burrito bag” for tools. It held emergency tools . . . and of course a burrito. I also made belts, covers and other gifts for family and friends at that time.

My presence on Instagram and the birth of my brand RNL Leather started in 2017 when my brother asked a favor of me, to make a knife sheath for him.  Since then I have made some very crazy and complicated as well as simple items. I think I was born an engineer.

I live in the beautiful seacoast city Camarillo California. Close enough to Los Angeles to take advantage of it but far enough away to not be affected.

I am now retired and very proud to have supported the Navy and the US Marines during my 30 year engineering career.
